Or install with one line

Paste this into a terminal. It downloads the latest release from GitHub and installs it for your user, without the security warnings below.

macOS and Linux curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pwalda/crocodile/main/scripts/install.sh | sh
Windows (PowerShell) irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pwalda/crocodile/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex
  • A one-time warning. Our builds aren't code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS warn about downloaded installers. On Windows, choose More info → Run anyway. On macOS, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Signed builds are on the way.
  • Always up to date. The app checks for new versions and updates itself, so you only install once.
  • First start. Pick a name and write down the recovery key the app shows you. That's the whole sign-up.

For server operators

Run a coordination server

Coordination servers are Crocodile's switchboards: they connect calls but never listen in. Running one makes connections faster for the people near you, and it's light enough for a small VPS or a home PC.

Docker docker run -d --name crocodile --restart unless-stopped --network host -v crocodile-data:/data -e CROC_PUBLIC_URL=https://croc.example.org -e CROC_DIRECTORY=https://crocodilechat.com -e CROC_CONTACT=you@example.org ghcr.io/pwalda/crocodile-coordinator

It uses the machine's own ports: open UDP 7443 and 7444 (STUN and the relay) and 49160–49259 (relayed calls), put an HTTPS reverse proxy in front of TCP 7443, and set CROC_PUBLIC_URL to its address and CROC_CONTACT to how people reach you. Or open the app and turn on Settings → Host a server. The self-hosting guide has the details.
